EA Wants You to Create

gameEA's Play Label is designed to harbor family-friendly titles and is currently publishing Create, which if you look at the game's marketing appears to be an attempt at a LittleBigPlanet clone. However, when I played the game at Tokyo Game Show I found the experience to more of a mixture of a sticker book and the DS puzzle game Scribblenauts.

The sticker book resemblance is pretty obvious once you pick up the game and start to customize a particular world. You can switch out the background and place buildings and objects to fill up the space to be just the way you want it. Of course all the areas you decorate can be uploaded to the Internet so that others can see what you've made and download it. There's also the option to tweak other people's creations and re-upload it as a modified version of the original.

gameThe Yakuza franchise has been going strong lately. Yakuza 3 was well-recieved in the states, Yakuza 4 is already out and successful in Japan, and a new zombie-filled installment, Yakuza of the End, is in the works. But that doesn't mean SEGA is ready to sit back and relax. Handheld gamers will soon be able to experience the dark and dangerous world of Japanese gangsters, too.

First, a word of warning. I know only enough Japanese words and phrases to get myself into and out of trouble. So fumbling my way thorugh the Yakuza PSP demo at SEGA's Tokyo Game Show booth was a bit of a crapshoot.

sampleNamco's new hack-and-slash action game Knight's Contract  was on display at the Tokyo Game Show this week, and I had the opportunity to sit down with producer Ryo Mito to find out a bit more about what to expect when thegame launches this spring.
You play as the invincible warrior Heinrich, who has entered into a contract with a resurrected witch named Gretchen to protect her from harm. If you're going to sign up a protector, you might as well sign up someone who can't be killed and wields an oversized scythe, right?Heinrich and Gretchen are on a mission to stop the evil Dr. Faust, who is up to all sorts of evliness in medieval Germany. He'd better look out, because Heinrich and Gretchen appear to be a formidable fighting team.

Little Battler Experience Preview

The year is 2050. Kids are super into this game called LBX – Little Battler Experience. Here's how it works. You buy a model mech from the toy shop and put it together. Then you get together with your friends and gather around the LBX board, which is really more like a tabletop gaming platform (think Warhammer) than a board-game board. Each of your little mechs has different capabilities and attributes, and you pit them against one another. Sounds pretty fun, right? Alright, time for some Inception s**t. We're going to go down a level. Ready?

In this fictional world, something conspiratorial is happening. There's some sort of military group making little robots, and somehow they end up in the wrong hands (bear with me here, my Japanese is pretty much nonexistent).
